Abstract

Giovanni Arrighi left a work of great relevance for the understanding of international phenomena, standing out for its creativity and argumentative quality and the number of citations, both among the authors who subscribe to his theory and among his most forceful critics. In his theory of the Long Cycles of Capital Accumulation, Hegemony and Domination, he originally brought together explanations and theories previously seemingly irreconcilable. His theory produced a new research agenda, probably much larger than the author could have imagined when he entered the theoretical debate about the US hegemonic crisis. Its intellectual heritage motivated debates and new reflections among Brazilian researchers and, certainly, it will be the target of new considerations and reinterpretations in the future ...
