Recently, Brazil - together with India, Japan and Germany - has again called for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. For the four countries, there is an urgent need to reform the Security Council, enlarging it to make it more representative, legitimate and effective. The objective of this article was to model the claim made by the G-4 using the analytical tool of game theory. Considering the premises presented, what can be seen is that, rationally, countries that already hold power will always try to maintain the status quo when it favors them. Therefore, the result was that the Brazilian claim for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council (as well as that of the other G4 members), if voted, will most likely be rejected.
