Abstract

This study show treatment of the impairment test of long-lived assets in agreement with the US-GAAP, issued by FASB. The impairment test is used to evidence and to measure a impairment loss of the carrying amount of a long-lived assets. An impairment loss happens when the carrying amount of a long-lived asset (group asset) exceeds its recoverable value. the study presents the main concepts existent accounting standards on the impairment loss (SFAS 144), as well as the accounting treatment of the recognition of this loss.
