Based on Gramsci's concepts of hegemony and Bourdieu's symbolic violence, this article questions the existence of an Americanization of the French Human and Social Sciences (CHS). To answer this question, it is proposed a cartography of the French and foreign editors involved in the export/import of CHS works, comparing the translation flows in France from the three most translated languages in this area – English, German and Italian. This comparison is based on a quantitative and qualitative analysis and it allows examining the evolution of the relationship of intellectual hegemony between national traditions and also the relations of strength between national editorial fields and between intercultural intermediaries, through various indexes: hegemony of English, symbolic capital of authors and national disciplinary traditions, and geographical and editorial concentrations, among others. The data lead to nuance the idea of an "Americanization" of the French CHS, but also indicate that the increase in English translation flows, to the detriment of German, reveals more an American hegemony than a regional dynamic, provoked by different logics: commercial, political, academic, and symbolic capital accumulation.
