Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) shows growing prevalence, and advertising campaigns are an important health communication strategy for its prevention and promotion. Objective: To analyze the content of advertising campaigns developed by the Brazilian Society of Nephrology (SBN) between 2016 and 2025 as health communication strategies about kidney disease. Method: Qualitative, documentary research whose corpus consisted of posters available on the institution's website, downloadable and published between 2016 and 2025, examined through their visual and textual components using directed content analysis, organized around three axes – mobilization, guidance, and information. Results: The application of the selection criteria resulted in the identification of ten campaigns, corresponding to the entire material available. Five prioritized the promotion of kidney health, with discourse focused on quality of life and individual protagonism, while five prioritized the prevention of CKD, centered on risk factors and diagnostic testing. Mobilization evolved from individual appeals toward collective and inclusive calls; guidance predominantly appeared through imperative phrases; and information, though present in all pieces, occupied a secondary position relative to slogans. Conclusion: SBN campaigns are relevant tools for kidney health communication, yet they reveal tension between individual responsibilization and strengthening collective and structural dimensions of care.
