Objective: To identify, in the national and international literature, the care offered to the elderly at the end of life by teams from long-term care institutions. Method: Integrative literature review carried out in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Medical Literature and Retrieval System Online (Medline) databases, via Pubmed, using the PICO strategy to construct the research question. We used a combination of Medical Subject Headings (Mesh Terms) and health science descriptors (DeCS) associated with the Boolean operator AND, including original articles in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, published between 2013 and 2023, available online in full. The Rayyan application was used to manage the identification and selection of documents, totaling ten articles as the research corpus. The findings were analyzed by theme. Results: The results were organized into two main categories – care actions focused on elderly residents of long-term care institutions and (in)direct care actions: interventions with the teams of long-term care institutions. The care provided by the teams is either directly to the elderly, such as hygiene, hydration and food, or indirectly through meetings and training for the teams that work with them. Conclusion: The care offered to the elderly in long-stay institutions prioritizes a quality end of life, respect, relief from suffering, reduction of depressive symptoms and death in the hospital environment. In addition, the presence of multi-professional and palliative care teams in institutions can ensure dignity, quality of (end of) life and comfort for the elderly.
