The World Health Organization recognizes collaborative practices to face the high demands of health work, despite the existence of barriers to its implementation. In an adverse context and with reduced investments in health, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged health professionals to develop, as recommended in the literature, competencies for interprofessional and collaborative work to offer more efficient care. The study is a qualitative case study, interviews were conducted with 18 professionals from the COVID-19 assistance teams of HCPA (physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, speech therapists, nutritionists and psychologists). From the selection and classification of the speeches, content analysis was carried out to interpret the objective and subjective data and to understand the corpus of collected data. It was observed, despite the disagreements regarding decision-making, the development of interprofessional competencies: respect, understanding of roles, leadership, conflict resolution, sharing decisions and knowledge, patient-centered care, and communication, which was identified as essential for interprofessional work and the development of the other competencies.
