SPEECH-LANGUAGE AND HEARING SCIENCES AND PSYCHOSOCIAL CARE IN MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

INTEGRATIVE LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

This study aimed to understand the relationship between Speech Therapy and psychosocial care in mental health services, through an integrative literature review. This is an integrative literature review carried out between February and April 2021, in the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), BIREME (Centro Latino-Americano e do Caribe de Informação em Ciências da Saúde), LILACS (Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde) e PubMed databases, through the combination of descriptors from the Medical Subject Heading Terms and Descriptors in Health Sciences. Were considered for the selection those articles published in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with no restriction on the period of publication with the guiding question "What is the relationship between speech therapy and psychosocial care services?". Data collection was performed by two independente researchers. 43 articles were found, of which, five were included in the present study. All articles were in Portuguese and national. Two articles that used the case study as methodology and three carried out an experience report. Speech therapy has an intrinsic relationship with psychosocial care. Mental health is an area in which this profession has a lot to contribute, there is an insufficiency in number of articles that address speech therapy activities in mental health services, requiring greater investments in conducting research in order to support the growth of activity professionals.
