RESUMO
Maurício de Nassau entrou para a história do Brasil como uma personalidade de excepcionais qualidades. Ao longo do tempo, sua atuação começou a suscitar algumas dúvidas. Isso levou à coexistência de discursos eminentemente laudatório com críticas nem sempre consistentes. No presente trabalho pretende-se analisar sua atuação no intuito de separar suas reais contribuições das fantasias que foram criadas a seu respeito.

ABSTRACT
Maurice of Nassau entered into the History of Brazil as a personality of exceptional qualities. Over time, his deeds began to raise some doubts. This led to the coexistence of highly laudatory speeches and a criticism not always consistent. In this paper we intend to analyze his deeds in order to separate its real contributions from the fantasies that have been created about him.
