Resumo

This study investigates the usability and accessibility of online learning platforms used by older adults through a comparative analysis of Moodle and Coursera. Eleven participants from the Open University for Senior Citizens (UNATI) performed structured tasks and answered questionnaires based on Nielsen’s heuristics and WCAG 2.0 guidelines, complemented by direct observation. Rather than merely comparing the platforms, this work validates a practical method for evaluating usability and accessibility, with a focus on older adults. The results indicate that, although both platforms received positive evaluations, Coursera presented significant barriers, such as navigation difficulties and inconsistent localization, whereas Moodle was perceived as more accessible and intuitive. The findings provide insights to support the development of more inclusive educational environments and the adoption of replicable assessment methodologies in diverse digital-learning contexts.
