Abstract

Do small export companies develop their logistic organization better than small internal market-oriented companies? In this paper, evidences are provided on this important issue while developing a comparative case study in a sector dominated by small companies, namely, the ornamental rocks sector at the Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (ES) conglomerate.  In order to analyze the logistics of these organizations, the methodology based on the leading edge logistics framework was used, which has been increasingly employed in studies on logistic organization carried out in Brazil. Results clearly demonstrate that the export company is not only ahead of the company oriented to internal market, but also it is the one that fits best the conceptual framework of leading companies in logistics adopted.
