THE APPLICATION OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT DIMENSIONS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY IN THE CITIES OF CATTLE MILK PRODUCERS IN THE STATE OF PARAIBA

The theoretical discussion concerning the sustainable development is acquiring a considerable space in the academic literature and in the managerial ambit, being consecrated as a challenging theme, based in the balance among the factors social, environmental and economical. The sustainability to issue as effective alternative to the restructuring of contemporary dilemmas related, in particular, the promotion of social inclusion, economic welfare and preserving the environment. In this perspective, the principal objective of this work is to identify the level of sustainability of the districts of the agreste paraibano involved with the production of the bovine milk and your influence in the politics and actions for generation of the sustainable local development. The methodology used as support to the accomplishment of the research it was the document regarding the Indicators of Sustainable Development (IDS): Brazil 2004, of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which approaches the following dimensions: Environmental, Social, Economical and Institutional. The obtained results evidence that the ten researched districts present unsatisfactory results in all the dimensions, with larger intensity for the economical and institutional dimensions. In that way, it is ended that the area, in spite of the existent potentialities concerning the production of milk, needs of larger attention on the part of the rulers, as well as of the institutions that support the subjects of sustainable development, in the sense of to minimize the effects of the restrictive factors to the development of the activity and to optimize the potentialities of the section.
