EVOLUTION AND CONDITIONING ELEMENTS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT IN COMPANIES

This article has the objective of discussing and theoretically deepening the transformation which has occurred in the companies' environment strategies, their conditioning factors, and the factors which affect the way they become different from their competitors. For that, several empirical and theoretical studies are presented and discussed so that this and other aspects of the environmental management could be clarified. The working nucleus approaches the evolution of the environmental strategies along time and the internalisation of the environmental questions by companies; the conducting factors of the increasing importance given by companies to the environmental issues; and presents some typologies of environment strategies, according to form of response given to the environmental pressures and to the direction of the strategies. The conclusions are that the environmental strategies are motivated not only by institutional factors but also by competitive ones, which have evolved in importance and content within the companies and which vary according to the companies' internal factors.
