Abstract

This article presents the theories on internationalization that are currently under discusion in academic milieu. It describes the process of industrialization in Brazil and highlights facts and elements that have impacted on the reality of Brazilian companies. More specifically, it discusses the entrance strategies that have been adopted and the challenges faced in the process of internationalization while presenting the microeconomic factors related to the degree of internationalization of these companies. The research is of an exploratory nature and was carried out in exporting companies from the electrical/electronic sector located in the state of São Paulo and revealed that the need to expand the market and the search for new technologies constituted propulsion forces behind internationalization. With regard the internationalization strategies adopted, most of the companies in the sample followed the Uppsala School model in a sense that there was a gradual involvement with receptor countries, based on the export modalities.
