Abstract

This paper make analyzes about Brazilians small companies situation in the period understood between 1984 and 2005. Considering the importance of this sector in socioeconomics development, the government and others initiatives that are justified to identify and make solutions to the main problems and challenges that reach the small companies. Among this problems and challenges it can be distinguished the legal aspects, tributaries aspects, considering the predominant characterization, performance, entrepreneur’s qualification and its main strategies. In the same direction, it was made a characterization for Brazilian extinct small companies, comparing it with the profile of the active small companies, for showing the difficulties causes and the reasons for its closing. For the end, it made an economic and social cost evaluation to enterprise bankruptcy of this size.
