This paper presents the developing steps during the establishment of Social Accountability SA 8000 standards in LUBNOR - a PETROBRAS refining plant at Ceará. The SA 8000 standards have been incorporated to Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Integrated Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999. In order to implement the social accountability, the company established a workgroup task with a mission of communicating, maintaining and promoting some actions with all employees of the Refinery. The biggest challenge of implementing this standard is concerned with the compromise of the supply chain (consisting of suppliers and sub suppliers of products and services), the supervision of the labor task and the adequacy of the management system with the embodying of SA 8000 requisites. New demands were generated, for example: the election of the employee’s representative; the celebration of a term of compromise with suppliers; the development of a follow up plan to figure out the supplier’s performance; and, the monitoring of extra time worked. The establishment of SA 8000 is a way to stand out the effort at LUBNOR in order to improve the working environment conditions and to consolidate an administration committed with sustainable development and human being improvement.Downloads
