What are Edthechs? A systematic literature review
Abstract
The traditional business model of educational institutions is facing challenges such as the recurrent loss of students and the number of university graduates working in low-quality jobs. On the other hand, Edtech, which refers to educational technology, is experiencing growth and offers alternative learning models beyond just applying technology in education. Edtech companies are increasingly preparing people for the job market by offering courses that encourage multidisciplinarity, and collaboration, and are focused on market needs. This research aims to synthesize and evaluate the existing knowledge on the concept of Edtech, its indicators, challenges, and trends. The study assumes its relevance, as there is a lack of systematic reviews and accessible research for EdTech professionals to take into account. It also contributes to providing perspectives for researchers and entrepreneurs to use systematic analysis to put into practice points not yet contemplated by current business models and to reflect on the strategies that are being defined by them.
