The increase in the frequency of environmental disasters in recent years has caught the attention of the international society. It happens that the countries of the Global South, even being responsible for less than 0.1% of greenhouse gas emissions, which is the main cause of climate change, have been the most affected. Thus, we seek to understand what climate disasters are and why they occur overwhelmingly in the Global South. The hypothesis tested is that climate disasters are a new form of environmental disasters, which occur more in this location due to environmental colonialism and climate coloniality. The methodology for the development of this research will be deductive, descriptive, historical, and explanatory. As for the results, it was identified that the current framework of climate coloniality affects humanity since the turn of modernity, with the overexploitation of this environment by the human being, especially by the subject of the Global North.
