Résumé

This article aims to discuss the characteristics of the fantasticpresent in the short-story “As formigas”, by Lygia Fagundes Telles. Emphasisis given to the building up of the atmosphere of hesitation which pervadesthe text. The theoretical basis for the analysis is provided by Todorov´stheory on the subject and some of Poe´s critical writings.
