ART OF TERRITORY AND EXTRACTIVIST FRONTIER IN PATAGONIA

Abstract

From the work of the collective ultimaesperanza, formed by Sandra Ulloa and Nataniel Alvarez, this paper proposes to discuss the relevance of contemporary Latin American art linked to territory, particularly in regions identified with the condition of frontiers. It is assumed that in regions exposed to intensive forms of extractivism, among which Patagonia is included, the territorial connection in the process of artistic experimentation points to alternatives to the systematic predatory actions against biomes and populations. By addressing the Projeto Popper developed by the ultimaesperanza collective, the aim is to reflect on how the creative processing of the colonial experience leads to a revision of the nature-culture dichotomy established at the core of modernity/coloniality. To this end, the direction given to aesthetic investigation will be analyzed, particularly in association with the use of multimedia resources as a means of reinscribing erased bodies and histories into the landscape.
