The uses of the notions of community, recognition, and place of speech in the recent public debate have placed the idea of belonging as synonymy and often a condition of the concept of identity. What is belonging if though not as a constituent of these nomenclatures or as part of the effects of their senses, but as something that establishes their paradoxes, their less perceptible complexities, their others, their non-places. In this article, I intend to discuss the notion of belonging to address two other central ideas that also participate in this debate: the issue of recognition and affection. I return to these two notions, in conversations with situations experienced by indigenous people, to try to think about the implications of this issue to the ideas of writing without belonging, without being the other of experience, "out of place."Downloads
