Abstract

Abstract: The Quicumbis Promises Rehearsal has been held at Quilombo Olhos D’Água, in Tavares (RS), since the mid-19th century. According to local memory, this tradition began with an apparition of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, black people protector, on the lakeside, and is maintained to this day through orality. Passed on from generation to generation, since the time of slavery, the Rehearsals are held on commemorative dates or based on conquests, with dancing, drums and singing.
