Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • This document does not identify in any way the author(s) of this paper and the name(s) of the author(s) has been removed from the Properties of the document in Microsoft Word, thus ensuring the journal's confidentiality criteria.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; any other case should be justified in "Comments to the Editor".
  • The submission files are in editable format, docx or rtf
  • The text has a space between lines of 1.5; uses Times New Roman 12-points; employs italics, rather than underlining or bold (except with URL addresses); figures and tables are inserted in the text, and not at the end.

  • The paper has a coversheet containing title, abstract, keywords, both in the original language and in English.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines in About the Journal.
  • I agree that, in order to guarantee visibility and international access to published texts, Educação & Realidade always publishes bilingual versions of articles and, therefore, I must send, upon publication, the article in Portuguese (or Spanish) and also in English.
  • Manuscripts must be accompanied by a supplementary document or comment to the editor stating the availability of the data used and generated in the research underlying the texts, according to one of the three options below:
    - URL address of the dataset;
    - statement that all data are available in the text;
    - indication that the data should be requested from the corresponding author. This option is only available in cases where there are ethical restrictions, for security or financial reasons.

Author Guidelines

Educação & Realidade accepts for publication articles that focus their discussion on the field of Education, resulting from theoretical studies, empirical research, analyses of concrete practices, or updated and controversial debates in the area. The texts, in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, must be unpublished or available on preprint servers accepted by the journal. Submissions of preprints from the following servers are acceptable: SciELO Preprints, arXiv, bioRxiv and medRxiv. The acceptance of preprints from other servers will be analyzed by the journal's editors. Research reports must be transformed into articles for publication in a scientific journal, according to the standards of Educação & Realidade.

The selection of articles for publication is based on their contribution to Education, in line with the journal's editorial policy. Originality of the topic or the treatment given to the subject, consistency, and rigor in both the methodological approach and theoretical framework, and the quality of the text are also fundamental.

Types of Accepted Documents

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal's website in docx or doc (Word) format or a compatible format. Authors' names should not appear in the body of the article. Please also remove any sections that could compromise the anonymity of the evaluation and any identifying data in the document properties.

All author identification data must be entered directly into the appropriate fields on the article registration page and the author(s) page in the article submission system, including the full name(s) of the author(s), postal address, telephone number, and email for reader contact, along with a brief curriculum description (maximum of three lines) and institutional affiliation. These details should not be included in the Word (or compatible) file submitted through the portal.

Manuscripts must be accompanied by a supplementary document or a comment to the editor stating the availability of the data used and generated in the research underlying the texts, according to one of the three options below:

- URL address of the dataset;

- Statement that all data are available in the text;

- indication that the data should be requested from the corresponding author. This option is only applicable in cases where there are ethical, security, or financial restrictions.

Authors' Contributions

After the manuscript is approved, Educação & Realidade may request the corresponding authors to inform the contributions of each author to the work, according to the postulate in CREDiT

The final version of the approved article will be published with the name of the editor or editors responsible for the manuscript evaluation process.

Manuscript Preparation

Texts, in docx or doc (Word) format or compatible, should be justified, typed in 1.5 spacing, in Times New Roman font, size 12. Quotations with more than three lines should always be in a new paragraph, in size 10, without quotation marks, and indented 4 cm to the left. Articles should have between 35,000 and 60,000 characters (including spaces), formatted for A4 paper, including bibliographic references, notes, and tables. They must be accompanied by a cover sheet which must include an abstract or resumen and an abstract (between 550 and 750 characters, including spaces) and keywords (maximum 5) in Portuguese or Spanish and keywords in English. Titles should have a maximum of 150 characters, including spaces, and should also be translated into English. The cover sheet, as well as the entire content of the article, must not contain any author identification.

Some items to be observed when typing the texts: double quotation marks only for direct quotations in the body of the text; italics for words with unconventional usage and for foreign words, neologisms, and titles of works and publications.

We request that the above norms be carefully followed; otherwise, the submitted texts will not be considered for evaluation.

Article Submission Format

  • Title in Portuguese or Spanish with a maximum of 150 characters with spaces
  • Title in English with a maximum of 150 characters with spaces
  • Abstract in Portuguese or Spanish and English (between 550 and 750 characters, including spaces)
  • Keywords in Portuguese and English (maximum of five, separated by periods)
  • Names of the authors, with full affiliation, ORCID, and E-mail (do not inform in the file to be evaluated, only in the metadata to be filled in SEER)
  • Information about article funding
  • We accept articles in Portuguese, Spanish, or English
  • Articles should have between 35,000 and 60,000 characters (including spaces)
  • Statement informing that the research was approved by an institutional ethics committee, when applicable

Digital Assets

Tables, charts, figures, illustrations, maps, diagrams, and other digital assets present in the documents should be included in the body of the article, indicating the title and source.

Citations and References

Citations should follow the format (Author's Surname, year) or (Author's Surname, year, p. xx). Different titles by the same author, published in the same year, should be differentiated by adding a letter after the date (Author's Surname, Year a, p. xx).

Bibliographic references should include exclusively the authors and texts cited in the work and be presented at the end of the text in alphabetical order, following the ABNT standards. When applicable, always indicate the translator's name after the title of the book or article.

Books:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First Names without Abbreviation. Book Title: Subtitle. Publication Location: Publisher, Year of Publication.

Book Chapters:

Periodicals:

Theses and Dissertations:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First Names without Abbreviation. Title: Subtitle. Year. Number of pages. Dissertation or Thesis (Master's in or Doctorate in) – Program Name, University Name, Location, Year.

Electronic Document:

AUTHOR'S SURNAME, First Names without Abbreviations. Title. Edition. Location: Year. Number of pages or volume (series) (if any). Available at: Accessed on: day month (abbreviated), year.

Supplementary Documents

At the time of submission, three types of supplementary documents may be included: Open Science Compliance Form, Statement of availability of the data used and generated in the research, and Ethics Committee Approval Form, etc.

Funding Statement

Inform the sources of support for the work, including the names of sponsors, contract number (if any), along with explanations about the role of these sources.

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) in Published Manuscripts

All approved works, upon their final publication in Educação & Realidade, will receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).

Copyright Notice

Authors of articles published by Educação & Realidade retain the copyright of their works, licensing them under the Creative Commons Attribution BY 4.0 license. This license allows articles to be reused and distributed without restriction, provided that the original work is correctly cited. In return, the authors grant the journal the right of first publication under the same license.

Privacy Statement

The emails registered at this journal are solely used to communicate with the authors, readers and reviewers.
