A Revista História da Educação inaugura, neste número, uma seção preocupada em publicar fontes documentais para a história da educação brasileira.
Ao elaborar o artigo A instrução pública e o ensino mútuo no Brasil: uma história pouco conhecida (1808-1827), deparei-me com o Projecto sobre o Estabelecimento e Organização da Instrução Pública no Brazil (1816), de Francisco Borja Garção Stoclder, referido por Pires de Almeida, que na época não foi possível localizar.
Tendo em vista o grande interesse despertado pelo tema sobre o ensino mútuo, gostaríamos de apresentar o que pode ser considerado o primeiro projeto para a instrução pública no Brasil. Agradecemos a gentileza do prof. dr. Rogério Fernandes, da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal, que tão prontamente enviou este precioso documento e aceitou, gentilmente, apresentá-lo.
