Controle e ufanismo: a escola pública no Rio Grande do Sul (1889-1930)
Abstract
Este trabalho aborda a escola pública rio-grandense, num contexto de modificações sociais e de grande expansão do ensino ocorrido no período de 1889/1930, no Rio Grande do Sul. A expansão do ensino ocorrida foi realizada seguindo as diretrizes da política educacional definida pelos dirigentes republicanos, a partir da qual foi realizada uma organização no setor que configurou a escola pública segundo os interesses que norteavam os líderes positivistas que comandavam o Estado. O controle estabelecido sobre a escola foi condizente com a orientação autoritária e centralizadora que marcou o Estado gaúcho na Primeira República. A educação ocupou um espaço importante no conjunto das políticas públicas, mas de uma forma que a transformou em instrumento do desenvolvimento econômico conservador levado a cabo pelos dirigentes políticos do período analisado.

Abstract
This worf deals with the rio-grandense public school, in a context of social changes and great expansion of teaching that occurred during the period of 1889/1930 in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The expansion of de teaching then occurred followed the roles of educational policies defined by the republican government leaders, from which an organization of the sector was made that structured the public school according to the interest that guided the positivists leaders which directed the State. The control established on the school was in accordance with the authoritarian and centralizing process that marked the gaúcho State in the First Republic. The education took an important place in the set of public policies, but in a way that changed it in an instrument of conservative economic development carried out by the political leaders of the period under analysis.
