Abstract

Cinzas do Cerrado is a visual photographic essay produced from the author's visit to Chapada dos Veadeiros, in Goiás. The artist's gaze focuses on the action of fire on the scorched earth. Although fires are common in the Cerrado region, they are not always spontaneous, but are often caused criminally, destroying much of the local fauna and flora. In recent years we have seen the frequency of these fires increase, not only in the Cerrado, but also in the Amazon and the Pantanal, which has led to the intensification of climate phenomena and the destruction of biomes and the extinction of species and their natural habitats. In this visual essay, photographs are presented in pairs, often in positions different from their natural spatial orientations, creating an atmosphere of perceptual displacement that highlights the textures and suffocating vertigo produced by the ash of the charred landscape.
