Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Contributions must be original, and shall not have been submitted for publication in another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in “Comments to the Editor”
  • The files for submission were generated by widely used text processing software, such as Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or RTF format (not exceeding 2MB); documents in any other format will not be accepted

  • URLs are informed in the references when necessary

  • The text spacing is 1.5; in 12-point Times New Roman font; use of italics instead of underlining (except in URL addresses); the tables were generated in the text editor and are inserted in the body of the text, not at the end of the document, as attachments; the images have their insertion space indicated in the body of the text, in sequential numbering in square brackets ([Image 1], [Image 2], etc.) and their individual files will be included as supplementary documents

  • The text should fully follow the patterns of style and bibliographical requirements described in the Authors Guidelines, in the section “About the Journal”

  • For manuscripts other than preprints, the identification of authorship of the work must be removed from the file and the Properties option in Word, thus ensuring the confidentiality criteria of the journal, if it is to be subjected to peer review (i.e. articles), accordingly with available instructions in Ensuring Blind Peer Review.

  • If the authors decide to deposit the manuscript on a preprint server simultaneously with the submission for evaluation in the journal, they commit themselves to depositing it on one of the servers accepted by Conjuntura Austral;
  • The authors ensure that the existence of any financial, commercial, political, academic, and/or personal conflicts of interest in relation to the manuscript, as well as all material and/or financial support received for the development of the research that originated this manuscript, are clearly informed in the field "Comments to the Editor" and also in the Letter to the Editorial Committee.
  • The authors correctly and completely filled out the Letter to the Editorial Committee, which will be forwarded as a supplementary document when submitting their manuscript.
  • The authors are aware and fully in accordance with the Guidelines on Ethics and Good Editorial Practices in Scientific Publishing adopted by the journal.

Author Guidelines

1. Conjuntura Austral publishes Scenario Analysis pieces, Research Articles and Book Reviews, in Portuguese, English and Spanish;

2. The journal is divided in four sections: Scenario Analysis (Scenario Analysis pieces); Research (Research Articles), Review (Book Reviews) and Dossier (Thematic Dossiers and Special Editions);

3. Contributions must be original and may have been deposited (prior or simultaneously to submission for evaluation for publication in the journal) on the preprint servers considered by Conjuntura Austral;

3.1 The journal accepts submissions of preprints deposited on the following servers:

- American Political Science Association

- OSF Preprints

- Preprints.org

- SciELO Preprints

3.1.1. If the authors decide to deposit the manuscript on a preprint server simultaneously with submission to the journal, they commit themselves to deposit it on one of the servers considered by Conjuntura Austral;

3.2 The preprints submitted to the journal will be evaluated by three reviewers, at least one member of the Editorial Committee and two others selected on an ad hoc basis by the Editorial Committee;

3.2.1. If requested, the names of the referees may be, at the discretion of the Editorial Committee, informed to the authors of the manuscript;

3.2.2. In case of approval of the preprints for publication, the issued assessments will also be published and may be, at the discretion of the Editorial Committee, accompanied by the names of the respective reviewers;

3.3 If the contribution is deposited on a preprint server, the authors must inform the Editorial Committee of it by filling in the specific field in the Letter to the Editorial Committee. The letter is available here, and must be sent as a supplementary document at the time of submission of the manuscript;

4. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must respect specific criteria for minimum and maximum numbers of characters; this character count includes the title, abstract, and keywords (in the original language and in English), body text, and footnotes; references are not included, however.

4.1 Manuscripts that are not suitable for the established size criteria may, upon request and from the evaluation of the Editorial Committee, be considered for publication. This request, as well as its justification, must be presented at the time of submission, in the section "Comments to the Editor" in the process of submitting articles in the system;

4.2 Scenario analysis articles must contain between 20 thousand and 30 thousand characters (including spaces);

4.2.1 Scenario Analysis should be scientific texts that analyze a current international situation or fact, seeking an explanation that locates such a situation or fact in broader explanatory structures (theoretical or historical). Unlike a journalistic or informative text, the scenario analysis should aim for broader explanatory elements, based on relevant bibliography, correlating the issue in question. The scenario analysis must be able to articulate specific and structural elements in a balanced way, offering a provisional explanation to the international issue under consideration.

4.3 Research articles must contain between 35 thousand and 50 thousand characters (including spaces);

4.2.1 Research articles must be the product of original scientific research. They may be partial results of a broader research, but which may already be released as a closed unit. They must have originality, conceptual precision, a clear definition of the problem, objectives and correct treatment of the data, adopt and present clearly appropriate methodology, be referenced in the relevant bibliography, and present clear results. The text must be sufficiently clear for a wider audience. The use of images and tables that have not been produced for the article weakens the submission and should be avoided.

4.4 Book Reviews must contain between 7 thousand and 12 thousand characters (including spaces).

4.3.1 Book reviews should be critical and analytical, and should not be limited to the presentation of the book reviewed. The text is expected to contribute not only to the knowledge of the work (clearly and objectively identifying both its central argument and its support structure) but also to situate it in the field of International Relations studies, presenting elements that demonstrate its interaction with other works and also its current character and relevance;

5. Information about the authors (full name, title, ORCID iD, institutional affiliation- with the name of the institution in full -and contact email) must be inserted in the respective fields of the journal's submission platform for all authors;
