Profissionalização, escola normal e feminilização: magistério sul-rio-grandense de instrução pública no século 19
Abstract
Esta investigação analisa o processo de feminilização do magistério sul-rio-grandense de instrução pública no século 19, tendo como tese que este processo se baseou em um mecanismo de profissionalização do magistério tendo como locus a escola normal. A partir da criação da escola normal verificou-se que rapidamente o perfil do magistério de instrução pública gaúcha se alterou passando a apresentar-se majoritariamente feminino e com o diploma de normalista. Neste sentido, no Rio Grande do Sul, mais do que a atuação de outros mecanismos, a ocupação do aparelho escola normal pelas mulheres consistiu na melhor forma de acesso a atividade pública.

Abstract
This investigation analyses the feminization process of the sul-rio-grandense elementary teachers of public instruction in the 19 century. Its thesis is that process was based on a mechanism of elementary teacher’s profissionalization which had as locus the Normal School (teachers college). It was verified the profile of the gaúcho elementary teachers of public instruction rapidly changed from the Normal school creation, when it became mostly feminine and with the elementary teacher certificate. Thus, in Rio Grande do Sul, more than other mechanisms, the occupation of the Normal School apparatus by women consisted the best access form to public activity.
