Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic promoted the practice of Remote Interpreting (RI) for many Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) who previously worked exclusively in person in different contexts. Considering that RI was a new practice for many SLIs during the pandemic, the study ‘Study title’ (Author, year) was conducted. This article presents an excerpt from the aforementioned study, relating it to current studies on RI. Initially, a survey of live streams broadcast in Brazil, transmitted and made publicly available on YouTube, on remote simultaneous interpretation performed by SLIs from March 2020 to March 2021. The live streams were analyzed for some reflections by SLIs on RI, identifying the strategies used to overcome the challenges encountered and identifying the ethical and aesthetic components that contribute to maintaining the quality of the service offered. IR, widely discussed and experienced during the pandemic, remains a form of work for many SLIs because it favors long-distance linguistic exchange and offers accessibility through the use of technologies widely used by the general population.
