Objective: This study aims to identify the motivations that move nurses from the Northern region of Brazil to pursue qualification in Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM), and applying them into their daily work routines; examine the impact of these training in their professional practice and to identify challenges related to access and implementation of TCIM within nursing. Method: The research is a sequential explanatory mixed-methods study, conducted using an online questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis. Results: Participants reported a strong commitment to professional development and frequently employed TCIM both as a self-care strategy and as part of their clinical practice, integrating it into team dynamics and aligning it with biomedical approaches. Findings indicate that TCIM enhances nurses’ professional autonomy. Institutional barriers were noted, including the absence of
TCIM content in undergraduate programs and limited awareness among other health professionals. Conclusion: The study highlights the need for broader recognition of expanding professional regulation, integration of the topic into undergraduate curricula, and institutional support from administrators.
