Abstract

The Notification Oriented Paradigm (NOP) is a new paradigm for developing, organizing, and executing software and even systems, which emerges from intelligent manufacturing area. NOP is composed of minimal entities for carrying out each logical-causal processing and each factual-executional processing (e.g., each variable changing or arithmetical processing). Those entities collaborate through precise notifications, being created/connected from high-level programming data. Such notification-oriented collaboration allows NOP to be naturally efficient with decoupled computational entities, thereby allowing systems with proper performance (e.g., low latency and high throughput) and parallel/distributed processing (e.g., parallel or distribution scalability). Actually, NOP has shown to be valuable and applicable in different areas, from artificial intelligence to hardware development. Nowadays, the NOP is under development by its research group, which includes support for IP-based communication in its stable C++ framework implementations, namely the NOP Frameworks based on C++. In this paper, a scheme, called NOP based on Internet Protocol (NOPIP), is reported. NOPIP is an IP communication layer for NOP implementation. It was the first to provide communication capability to that NOP Framework set, taking into account two sorts of NOP entities. These entities are the Attributes and Premises, respectively concerned with factual and logical processing in NOP applications. In order to verify the functionality of the proposed NOPIP solution was applied to the NOP Framework C++ 2.0. Four applications have been developed concerning redundant and sentient-like computing, thereby allowing the demonstration of the NOPIP feasibility. Moreover, a performance comparison of using Attribute and Premise values through the network is made. It was verified that notifications of Attribute values via network were more efficient than the notifications of Premise values, thereby reducing, on average, 13.64% the execution time of the server and 88.62% of the client.
