O PORTÃO COLONIAL DE PORTO ALEGRE, A ENTRADA DA CIDADE FORTIFICADA

RESUMO
Neste artigo investiga-se a história do Portão Colonial de Porto Alegre. Entre 1778 e 1845 a cidade de Porto Alegre foi protegida por uma fortificação e seus acessos, por terra, controlados por meio do Portão da cidade. Durante o séc. XIX, o portão e as trincheiras foram completamente apagados da paisagem urbana da cidade. Apesar de não haver registros de como seria sua aparência, por meio deste estudo examinou-se como poderia ser a sua morfologia e, também, como foi retratada a sua imagem, durante o séc. XX. Ao longo do tempo, na cidade de Porto Alegre a região do Portão transformou-se profundamente. Ainda assim, alguns vestígios do período de existência do Portão Colonial de Porto Alegre permaneceram. Investigou-se a localização do Portão Colonial de Porto Alegre, na paisagem urbana contemporânea, por meio de três estudos realizados a partir de dados como a planta de L. P. Dias de 1839, o mapa topográfico de Porto Alegre de 1941, plantas de registros de propriedades, depoimentos de antigos moradores da região e imagens contemporâneas de satélites (Google Earth).

ABSTRACT
In this article the history of the Colonial Gate of Porto Alegre is investigated. Between 1778 and 1845, the city of Porto Alegre was protected by a fortification and its access by land was controlled through the City Gate. During the century XIX, the gate and the trenches were completely erased from the urban landscape of the city there are no records of how their morphology would be, this study examined how its structure could be and how his image was portrayed during the century XX. Over time, as the city of Porto Alegre the region of the Gate was deeply transformed. Despite this, some vestiges of the period of existence of the colonial Gate of Porto Alegre remained. The location of the Porto Alegre Colonial Gate was investigated in the contemporary urban landscape with three studies based on data such as the map of L. P. Dias dated 1839, the topographic map of Porto Alegre dated 1941, property records plants, testimonies of former residents of the region and contemporary satellite images (Google Earth).
