O PATRIMÔNIO EM CIDADES NOVAS: DISCUSSÕES MEMORIAIS E DE DESENVOLVIMENTO REGIONAL

No século XX, diversas regiões do interior brasileiro sofreram um processo de urbanização e industrialização – associado à mecanização da agropecuária –, dando origem às chamadas “cidades novas”. Estes locais, até então deslocados do foco modernizante, passaram a elaborar outros modos de ser e viver, em um processo dialético entre o material e o subjetivo, o popular e o erudito, o urbano e o rural. As grandes massas de população rural foram incorporadas às novas pautas econômicas, sociais e políticas da vida moderna e com isto transformaram o seu fazer social e a própria percepção do que pode ser o urbano. Nesta perspectiva, também cresceu nos últimos anos a discussão sobre as políticas patrimoniais e de memória nestes municípios. Ainda que de forma incipiente, setores da sociedade civil vêm se organizando no sentido de realizar inventários e exigir políticas de preservação, mas a visão majoritária tende a acreditar que, por seu caráter recente, a cidade não possui patrimônio, ou que não precisa ser resguardado. Este trabalho, assim, pretende contribuir teórica e metodologicamente sobre o patrimônio e sobre os significados do passado na construção do futuro das cidades novas, estimulando o debate sobre um desenvolvimento regional aliado à valorização cultural.

Abstract
In the 20th century, several regions of the Brazilian interior suffered a process of urbanization and industrialization – associated with the mechanization of agriculture –, giving rise to the so-called “new cities”. These places, until then displaced from the modernizing focus, began to elaborate other ways of being and living, in a dialectical process between the material and the subjective, the popular and the erudite, the urban and the rural. The masses of the rural population have been incorporated into the new economic, social and political patterns of modern life and have transformed their social activity and their own perception of what the urban can be. In this perspective, the discussion on heritage and memory policies in these municipalities has also grown in recent years. Although incipient, sectors of civil society have been organizing to carry out inventories and demand preservation policies, but the majority view tends to believe that, because of its recent character, the city has no heritage, or that it does not need to be protected . This work intends to contribute theoretically and methodologically on heritage and the meanings of the past in the construction of the future of new cities, stimulating the debate on a regional development allied with cultural valorization.
