JUÍZES DE PAZ EM SANTA MARIA: UMA ANÁLISE DAS REGULAMENTAÇÕES, DOS INDIVÍDUOS E SUAS AÇÕES ENTRE 1830-1850

Este trabalho analisa a instituição do Juizado de Paz em Santa Maria entre 1830 e 1850. Através do estudo da sua legislação, investigou-se sobre indivíduos que ocuparam o cargo de Juiz de Paz e seus papéis políticos desempenhados em Santa Maria. O Juizado de Paz, como uma das instituições de justiça mais antigas da história judiciária do Brasil, carrega elementos que possibilitam compreender aspectos da burocracia local, práticas de justiça, entre outras questões importantes para compreender o funcionamento da justiça, das relações sociais e das instituições municipais ao longo do século XIX. O estudo em fontes oficiais permite mapear os Juízes de Paz, possibilitando verificar se havia ou não o cumprimento das leis que normatizavam o cargo. A partir dos nomes desses indivíduos, é possível construir aspectos biográficos que indiquem sua circulação por outros cargos, suas diferentes formas de atuação e a política local que desempenhavam. Dito isso, busco observar essas questões e verificar como elas dialogam com os resultados encontrados sobre a atuação do Juizado de Paz em outros lugares.

Abstract
This study analyzes the Peace Court institute in Santa Maria, in the period between 1830 and 1850. Throughout the study of the legislation, it was investigated about the individiuals that were judges and their political rolls performed in Santa Maria. The Peace Court, as one of the oldest justice institutions of the judiciary history of Brasil, carries elements that allows us to understand aspects of the local burocracy, justice practices and also  other important questions to comprehend the justice functioning, the social relationships and the town institutions along the XIX century. The study in official sources allows to map the peace officers, providing the verification about the accomplishment of the laws that regulate that job. Based on the mapping, it is possible to build biographical aspects that shows their circulation among other positions, their diferent ways of acting and their political roles performed. That being said, I look into these questions and I verify about how they dialogue with the results found about the justice court practicing in other places.
