Abstract

This text is a review of the book "School Management and the Work of the School Principal in Times of Managerialism in Public Education," a recent publication by Luís Gustavo Alexandre da Silva and Ricardo Antônio Gonçalves Teixeira. This book offers a critical analysis of the impacts of the new management approach on the administration of Brazilian public schools, particularly in the state of Goiás. The work examines how managerial principles influence the organizational culture of schools. It analyzes current public policies, addressing their impact on school outcomes. It represents an important contribution to the debate on the transformations of school management in the context of neoliberal policies. However, while it offers a thoughtful analysis of the effects of managerialism on the work of school principals, it lacks the voices of teachers and students who experience these reforms daily. Despite these limitations, the book provokes the reader to reflect on the direction of public schools and the place of school leadership in this context. It is, therefore, a necessary reading for educators, researchers, and managers committed to building a critical, democratic, and socially referenced public school.

Graduated in Pedagogy from the University of Southern Santa Catarina (2003). Postgraduate degree in Epistemological Foundations of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education (2004). Currently a student at the University of Southern Santa Catarina in the Master's Degree in Education (2024-2026). Member of the Research Group - Study on Management and Educational Practices.
Has experience in the area of ​​Education since 1999, with an emphasis on Administration of Educational Units.

Graduated in Pedagogy - Initial Series and Educational Guidance from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2000), Master in Education from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2004) and PhD in Education from the University of Lisbon (2018) with a diploma revalidated by the University of São Paulo (USP). She has worked in higher education for over 24 years (2000 to the present day), having worked as a Professor in subjects in the area of ​​Human Sciences and Pedagogical Coordinator in undergraduate courses. She is currently a Professor and Researcher in the Master's and Doctorate Course in the Postgraduate Program in Education at Unisul; serves as a member of the Ethics Committee, as a member of the NDE in the Human Sciences Courses. She develops research in the area of ​​Education on the following topics: educational policies, educational management, teacher training, university pedagogy and inclusive education. She carries out an International Extension Project in partnership with Argentina on emerging themes for basic education teachers. She works as a volunteer vice-president at the João Paulo II Association, which serves 250 children in vulnerable contexts (2011 to the present day). She is a teacher and curator of teaching materials for digital education. Leader of the Group - Studies on Management and Educational Practices (since 2022), certified by the CNPq research directory. Member of the Research Group - Observatory in Comparative Education, Inclusion and Social Rights (since 2023). Associate of ANPED, ANDIPE and the Brazilian Curriculum Association. Research Fellow at the Ânima Institute on the National Education Plan.
