“Educating the Right: Markets, Standards, God, and Inequality” was written by Michael Apple, a North American researcher. This book was published in São Paulo by Editora Cortez in 2003, with 328 pages and ISBN registration 978-8524909030. Revisiting it twenty years after its publication, I engaged in a close and provocative reading, which produced different effects and sensations during an undergraduate course where we discussed the rise of neoliberal policies and the far-right in power, and their impact on teacher education programs. This experience prompted and compelled me to express, through writing, the many sensations stirred during this reading, which are reflected in this review. I explored the key points highlighted by Apple in depth, first due to the difficulty in finding such a necessary book in the current context, and second because I presented examples from the Brazilian reality following the 2016 coup and the rise of the far-right to power with Bolsonaro, especially in relation to the Base Nacional Comum Curricular (BNCC) and the reform of the Novo Ensino Médio (New High School).
