Abstract

The article derives from a master's research on sexual abuse as an adverse experience in adolescence: a school-based survey. Its objective is, through a narrative review, to analyze sexual abuse as an adverse experience in adolescence and how schools can act to confront this type of violence in Amazonas. Initially, the work situates the concept of childhood in Brazil from a historical context, addresses the typologies and consequences of sexual abuse against children and adolescents and, finally, discusses the challenges faced by schools when dealing with this theme. It is concluded that in the context of the state of Amazonas, where social vulnerability and lack of resources are constant challenges, the school presents itself as a crucial space to confront this violence. However, educational institutions must be prepared to identify signs of abuse and offer appropriate support. Collaboration between the school and the community is key to building an effective safety net.
