Abstract

The visual essay depicts the Procession of All Saints, held in November 2023 in Rio de Janeiro's Port Zone. Since 1999, the procession has been part of the calendar of the Grande Companhia Brasileira de Mystérios e Novidades, a reference in public art in Rio de Janeiro. The procession proposes a sacro-profane manifestation, bringing together elements of Brazilian religious and popular cultures in an integrating rite, with banners, costumes, live music and dances performed by artists and community members. The event transcends traditional street theater, becoming a sensory celebration of religious syncretism and Brazil's cultural identities. By occupying the urban space and mobilizing the public, the Procession reaffirms the company's commitment to preserving collective memory, valuing the region and resisting a living and accessible art.
