William Morris (1834-1896) was a designer associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. In The Socialist Ideal: Art (1891) Morris infers that it is necessary to analyze socialism from an aesthetic point of view, in his analysis, the capitalist mode of production impacted man's relationship with nature, the city, religion, as well as social relations; making the art product accessible to bourgeois and nobles, it generated the social apartment between the figure of the artist and the craftsman. In Brazil, little is explored of Morris's critical and political bias, who has a vast intellectual production regarding the Decorative Arts and its political, economic and social relationship with society.
