Abstract

This article aims to discuss how the presence of the Guarani people is portrayed in historical-literary narratives that shape the current territory of Rio Grande do Sul. The goal is to highlight aspects of Guarani trajectories through narratives found in official history, literature, and mission-related songs, with a focus on the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul up to the present day. By analyzing narratives from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous sources, the article identifies representations of Sepé Tiaraju, the Mboi Guaçu, and the Guarani struggle for land, as well as explores intersections and developments between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Rio Grande do Sul, particularly in relation to the ongoing memory and resistance of the Guarani in contemporary times.
