Abstract

This text is dedicated to observing the presence of rivers in poems by three indigenous writers from Abya Yala – Ellen Lima Wassu, Natalie Diaz and Trudruá Dorrico. As a critical support, it is noted that indigenous thinkers from different locations on this continent – such as Moira Millán and Ailton Krenak – present very similar defenses, emphasizing the need to confront coloniality so that the language of waters and other cosmological expressions can be heard and perceived. Thus, it is understood that this is an unavoidable path to cultivating more careful ways of coexisting and living well with the Earth and with other forms of life. Another great contribution comes from the counter-colonial legacy of Antonio Bispo dos Santos (Nego Bispo), who also proposed inspiring ways of confronting coloniality, such as his act of sowing words. Confluence is one of the concepts cultivated by him that contributes significantly to nourishing the reflections presented in this article. In addition to this, other important concepts in the context of the considerations presented here were “encantamento” and “vivacidade”, developed by the thinkers Luiz Rufino and Luiz Antônio Simas. In their arguments, these thinkers emphasize that practices of enchantment and activation of “vivacidade” are indispensable paths to affirming life.
