Good news for a new year

As we move along with our aim of recovering and stimulating the scientific
production of the outstanding Services at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre,
we present the last 1999 issue of Revista HCPA. This is a collection of works
by a highly qualified group of colleagues from the Intensive Care Center,
coordinated by Professor Silvia Regina Rios Vieira, who has recently returned
from a period of studies in France.
Professor Rio Vieira has long contributed to the organization of Revista
HCPA. Therefore, it is an honor to have her as Associate Editor in the present
issue, which closes one year and already looks into the next. And the next
year is full of great expectations.
In 2000, we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Revista HCPA. Along these
years, our journal has matured as a medium of expression for the work
developed at our Institution. Revista HCPA continues on the Internet, and
starting with the next issue, it will received administrative support from the
Medical Foundation. This will result in more flexibility for obtaining other types

of sponsorships and for selling subscriptions, opening up the scope of the
journal.
With such an excellent perspective, we end this volume with yet another
invitation to all colleagues to submit their work to Revista HCPA. We are open
to all individual researchers, and to those who would like to propose issues
that are focused on the work of specific groups.
