Evaluation of humanizing actions developed in Pediatrics at the Hospital de Clínicas in Porto Alegre

Abstract

Humanization encompasses the valorization of different individuals implied in the health production process as well as the fostering of autonomy and protagonism of these individuals; the increased degree of co-responsibility; the establishment of solidary links and collective participation in the management and attention process, as well as the identification of health’s social needs. This is an evaluative, quantitative study that sought to find the existing humanization actions within the scope of Pediatric Internment at the Hospital de Clínicas in Porto Alegre (HC). The study permitted monitoring the development and installation process of extra-care activities at a pediatric level at HC. The results involving the target public indicate that 64.2% of the programs encompass children and adolescents; 78.5% family members and companions and 28.6% the health team. This study showed that the evaluation of activities developed in Pediatric Internment translates the team’s effort in seeking the humanization of its activities. The inseparability of care and management, one of National Humanization Policy’s principles, can be identified through the valorization of the different individuals implied in the health production process: users, workers and managers.
