Abstract

This article analyzes the potentiality of so called governmentality studies’ to examine the concept of governability beyond institutional approaches that have become the mainstream in the field of the Political Science in this Region. As governability would be the effect of exercising political power through institutionalized rules that gives capabilities to deal with social demands, we propose, as hypothesis: 1) the convenience of thinking governability as the outcome of political rationalities and neoliberal government technologies (governmentality is the concept introduced by Foucault) that tend to constitute governable subjects. Based upon the relevant literature and recognizing that this study is a first approach to this problematization –, we conclude that governmentality studies’ offer useful tools for dealing with the governability of a political system.
