This work explores the trajectory of Arinda da Cruz Sobral, a primary school teacher and architect. Arinda was an employee of the former Prefeitura do Distrito Federal in Rio de Janeiro and studied architecture at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes. The aim of this work is to demonstrate, through her journey, how she entered the field of architecture at the beginning of the 20th century and the possible historical meanings of her experience. Based on the analysis of periodical sources and using the theoretical framework of the notions of field, male domination, and experience, it was possible to identify not only the social structure of her context but also aspects of her agency. Thus, the trajectory of the teacher and architect was explored aiming to make a contribution to the notion of historical variability based on the diversity of experiences of women, as students and professionals, in the first decades of the 20th century in Brazil.
