Abstract

The objetive of this study is to make a revision of the existing knowledge on metallic wires used in orthodontics.The principal characteristics of different materials will be approached such as generalities, proprieties, indications, advantages and disadvantages of each lead. The great variety of wires available to the orthodontist, several times leads to doubts in the choice of the best material to be used. Stainless-steel wires, nickel-titanium, betha-titanium, coaxial, super elastic, among others, have specific characteristics and clinical aplications and must be used correctly.
