Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of methyl salicylate and silicon oil addition on setting time, flow and film thickness of a salicylate resin-based cement. Materials and Methods: A experimental cement based on 70% of a glycerol salicylate resin and 30% of calcium hydroxide had its viscosity adjusted by methyl salicylate (MS) and silicon oil SO). SM and SO were added on the following concentrations: 10% MS, 15% MS, 20% MS, 10% SO, 15% SO, 20% SO, 5% MS + 15%SO, 10% MS + 10% SO e 15% MS + 5% SO. Setting time, flow and film thickness were assessed as described by ISO 6876. Results: Setting time ranged from 1.33h (20% MS) to 14.42h (10% SO), increasing with methyl salicylate concentration and decreasing with silicon oil addition. The highest flow values were found to 15% MS, 5% MS + 15% SO e 10% MS + 10% SO, reaching to 29.29±12.86mm. Film thickness ranged from 70.00±26.46 to 216.67±80.21mm, with the lowest value measured for 5% SM + 15% group. Conclusion: Setting time, flow and film thikness of glycerol salicylate based cement were influenced by methyl salicylate and silicon oil concentration.Downloads
