Effectiveness evaluation of disinfection solutions in periapical radiographic films

The purpose of this study was to test four disinfection solutions in radiographic fdms, contaminated with pure cultures of Staphylococcus aureus and Enlerococcus faecalis. The following disinfection agents were used: 2% glutaraldeyde,0,5 % sodium hipochlorite, 1% sodium hipochlorite and 77%v/v alcohol . A total of 64 fdms divided into4 group were sampled. After contaminated, the films packets were disinfected with the different solutions. The time of imersion were3 0and 6 0 seconds.The films were microbiologically sampled with a cotton-tipped applicator: the applicator was streakedonto a BHIagar plate. The plates were incubated at 37C for 24 hours.The substances were evaluated through of bacterial growth.The results suggest that the 2% glutaraldeyde and 1% sodiumhipochlorite were effective in the intra-oral radiographic film disinfection procedure. The77% v/valcohol were effective for 60 seconds of imersion. In the 0,5% sodium hipochlorite group was observed bacterial grow thinthe two times of imersion.Downloads
