Abstract

The present study assessed fluoride oral retention in caries free and caries experience children after tooth brushing with a low fluoride dentifrice concentration. Eighteen children, half with and half without active caries lesions were randomly divided into two groups which used 500 or 1100 µg F/g dentifrices. The samples of saliva were collected without salivary stimulation, in baseline and 1, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min after toothbrushing and it were measured using a fluoride specific electrode. The results showed that the 500 ppm F dentifrice has less fluoride oral retention (p<0,05) and that the experience of caries did not interfere in the F incorporation by saliva (p>0.05). The results indicate that fluoride retention increase with fluoride concentration in toothpaste and caries experience may be not influence in salivary fluoride retention.
