Abstract

Posterior cross-bites are among the greatest prevalence malocclusions of the deciduous and mixed dentitions (7-23%). In this way, may authors are worried about explaining their etiology, looking for conducting a diagnosis as well as rationalizing a better treatment. Several etiologic factors related to this malocclusion point out a dental-alveolar or skeletal origin. Also it may appear as functional mandybular accomodations, being each case to receive a specific treatment. Therefore, such a study intends to explain, in a didactic way, the different forms to set a early differential diagnosis among posterior cross-bites variations and also to show their importance and the best ways of treatment.
